Slides are a playground staple that kids congregate to. While, kids view them as just a fun thing, slides also help combine multiple developmental skills and senses. A child climbing the sliding stairs build coordination, balance, and strength in arms & legs. Sliding also generates increased vestibular involvement & awareness of how our bodies move through space & against gravity. It intensifies proprioception, also improving awareness of body position & the amount of force required for an activity.
And also, slides introduce a great opportunity for children to learn valuable social skills such as sharing and taking turns. Waiting in line produces patience and self-regulation skills. It can also instate understanding and compassion for the skills & physical abilities of other kids.
